If you have at least two years of full-time (or equivalent in part-time) work experience in a skilled trade within the last five year period, you may be eligible to apply for the FSTC

If you are a qualified, experienced tradesperson who wants to apply for permanent residency, the FSTC may be the best route for you. To meet the minimum requirements, you must show you have:

  • Two years of full-time work experience (or an equivalent in part-time work) in a skilled trade within the last five years
  • A valid job offer for at least one year OR have a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian province or territory
  • A minimum language score in English or French
  • Proof of meeting minimum requirements for settlement funds

Keep in mind that a valid job offer must meet specific requirements and a work permit on its own is not a job offer.  The work experience must have been acquired after you became qualified to independently practice your trade depending on your country where the work was performed.

Due to the competitive nature of this program, candidates that surpass the minimum requirements will be considered for an invitation to apply.

No. The work experience for this program does not need to be continuous.

No. You do not require both. You must hold either a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian province or territory in the specific trade occupation or have an offer of employment for a full-time continuous period of at least one year in your skilled trade.

In most cases (not all), you need to show proof of settlement funds to apply for this program and the amount depends on your family size. The amount of money must be transferable.
