Similar to NAFTA, the CPTTP may offer a viable program to avoid the LMIA and obtain a work permit to come to Canada

We focus on two of the four categories currently under CPTTP.

Professionals

To be eligible for this category, the foreign worker must:

  • Be a citizen of: Australia, Japan, Mexico or a permanent resident of Australia
  • Have proof of Theoretical and Practical specialized knowledge of your occupation
  • Have proof of having a degree of at least 4 years of study unless it’s not necessary for your occupation (additional requirements may apply depending on your occupation)
  • Have at least 2 years of paid work experience in your occupation

Technicians

To be eligible for this category, the foreign worker must:

  • Be a citizen of: Australia, Japan, Mexico or a permanent resident of Australia
  • Have proof of Theoretical and Practical specialized knowledge of your occupation
  • Have a degree requiring at least 2 years of study, unless specified in your occupation (additional requirements may apply depending on your occupation)
  • Have at least 4 years of paid work experience in your occupation

Spouse Open Work Permit for Technicians and Professionals 

An open work permit may be issued to the spouse of a professional or technician if the principal applicant is a citizen of Australia, Japan or Mexico or a permanent resident of Australia

CPTTP Intra-Corporate Transferees

To be eligible for this category, the foreign worker must:

  • Be a citizen of: Australia, Japan, Mexico or New Zealand (permanent residents of Australia and/or of New Zealand may also qualify)
  • Be rendering services within the Canadian parent, subsidiary or affiliate of that overseas enterprise that is a signatory of the CPTTP
  • Be playing the role of either an executive, manager, specialist and in some cases a management trainee on professional development
  • Have been employed by an enterprise or have been partners of that enterprise of the CPTPP country for at least 1 year within the previous 3 years

Your job offer and work experience will require an assessment to determine whether or not you qualify.

Spouse Open Work Permit for Intra-Corporate Transferee

An open work permit may be provided to a spouse of an intra-corporate transferee if the main applicant is a citizen of either Australia (or a permanent resident of Australia), Japan or Mexico.
